A Quick Escape: 2-Day Tour to Zagora Desert Oasis

If your time in Morocco is limited but you still dream of experiencing the Sahara, our 2-day tour to Zagora desert oasis is the perfect solution. Located closer to Marrakech than the massive dunes of Merzouga, Zagora offers a fantastic, accessible desert experience. This fast-paced itinerary packs incredible scenery, ancient history, and nomadic culture into one unforgettable weekend.

Crossing the Atlas and the Draa Valley

Departing from Marrakech, your journey begins with a spectacular drive across the High Atlas Mountains. We will stop to explore the famous Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, a stunning mud-brick fortress that has starred in many Hollywood films. The 2-day tour to Zagora desert oasis then takes you through the lush Draa Valley. This region is famous for its millions of date palms and ancient crumbling kasbahs. You can read about the historical significance of the Draa River to understand how it shaped the local culture.

A Night Under the Stars

Upon arriving in Zagora, the true adventure begins. You will trade your vehicle for a camel, embarking on a serene trek into the desert as the sun begins to set. While Zagora’s dunes are smaller and rockier than Merzouga’s, the experience of sleeping in a traditional Berber tent under a vast, unpolluted starry sky is just as magical. Your 2-day tour to Zagora desert oasis concludes with a scenic morning drive back to Marrakech, leaving you with incredible desert memories.
